Día 1

Arrival in Salta

Morning / Afternoon  
Arrival at Salta Airport and shared transfer to your hotel. Take the rest of the day to stroll around the city’s colonial center — Plaza 9 de Julio, San Francisco Church, and the MAAM Museum.  
 
Evening  
Dinner suggestion: El Solar del Convento for traditional empanadas and regional wine.  
Accommodation: Hotel del Convento (boutique comfort, colonial style, walking distance to main square).

Salta to Cachi via Los Cardones National Park

Morning  
Depart southwest along the Lerma Valley through tobacco fields and small towns. Ascend the dramatic Cuesta del Obispo to reach Piedra del Molino (3,348 m), then cross the cactus plains of Los Cardones National Park along the historic Recta del Tin Tin.  
 
Afternoon  
Arrive in Cachi, a serene adobe village framed by snow-topped peaks. Visit the Archaeological Museum or stroll cobblestone streets.  
 
Evening  
Dinner suggestion: Ashpamanta for Andean fusion dishes.  
Accommodation: El Cortijo Hotel (refined rustic décor, central courtyard, great local hospitality).

Practical Notes 

  • Best season: April–October (dry and clear skies). Summer (Dec–Mar) brings occasional rains and lush greenery.  
  • Altitude: Short exposure to 3,348 m (Piedra del Molino); most nights below 1,700 m.  
  • Transport: Shared services on comfortable vans or minibuses; some gravel sections between Cachi and Cafayate.  
  • Luggage tip: Soft duffel preferred for small vehicle storage.  
  • Advance booking: Reserve community visit and Salta hotels 30 days ahead, especially in winter holidays or Easter week.
